Jamie remembers Billy Brockmann

There have been many, many stories of the children of St. Jude that have changed my life forever. When I remember Billy Brockmann, I remember a loving boy with the strong will of his mother and determination of his father. Whether it was building leggo's, which he loved, swimming, or harrassing his little brother, the boy had a love for life. He was just 6-month short of the "all clear" from cancer when he relapsed with an inoperable brain tumor - he passed away 11-months after the relapse.
At his memorial service there were hundreds of people - in fact he had two services, one in the town he grew-up and lived in and the other where his grandparent's lived and where he was laid to rest. This 10-year old boy touched the lives of SO many - one of my fondest memories of him was when we held a dog walk fundraiser for St. Jude and he was the one of the judges for the dog contests - he ran up to me and gave me a huge hug and thanked me for letting him be part of it. The next year he was in a wheel chair barely able to use his right side but he still enjoyed it - he loved dogs and life so much. He has been gone almost 6 years now and I for one will never forget him...he was a great kid!
