Adversity Happens – Seize the Blessings
- Innovative Internet Marketing Campaign Seeks to Raise $1 Million
for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital -

“Adversity happens. On the other hand, blessings – or positive opportunities – need to be discovered, created, and developed.” So says Frank F. Lunn, President and CEO of Bloomington, Illinois-based Kahuna Empowerment, Inc., an independent publisher that has taken on the monumental task of raising $1 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The fundraising campaign, titled Blessings In Adversity, is both an entrepreneurial Internet marketing campaign and a life strategy.

Lunn created the fundraiser out of profound gratitude to the organization that saved the life of his son Frankie. A typical 9-year old kid when he was diagnosed with leukemia, Frankie reassured his parents with the words, “Don’t worry, everything will be okay.” Today 12-year-old Frankie is in complete remission and is learning to play football. Lunn and his family are forever grateful to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and, with the newly created Kahuna Charitable Foundation, is seeking to raise national awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and their mission, which is “Finding cures. Saving children.” The Blessings In Adversity campaign will be active throughout the month of September coinciding with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the pioneering work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Lunn also wants to share the Blessings In Adversity life strategy that he learned which he describes as the belief and practice of Applied Practical Optimism. “Anyone can change his or her life by learning the strategies and tactics formerly reserved for business owners, military leaders, sports figures, and other successful people,” Lunn promises. “We can't always choose or control our circumstances, but we can choose our response, attitude and actions that follow.”

His goal is to raise $1 million – the equivalent of one day’s operating expenses for the revolutionary Research Hospital – will require the help of everyone who can relate to the story of Frankie and countless other children who have benefited from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He asks that people visit BlessingsInAdversity.com to make a donation. In addition to a sizable collection of donated bonus items, they’ll receive his appreciation for helping and an understanding of how everyone, everywhere, can learn to find the blessings in adversity.

2004 Press Release

Author Finds Blessing In Adversity Vows To Raise $1 Million in 30 Days For Childhood Cancer

In 2004 approximately 563,700 Americans are expected to die from cancer and 1,510 of those are expected to be children aged 0-14.  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is striving to change that statistic. Author Frank F. Lunn learned to find blessing in adversity during his son Frankie’s treatment of leukemia and has started a campaign to raise awareness and funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the hospital he credits with saving his son’s life.

During Frankie’s treatment for leukemia at St. Jude, Frank turned adversity into opportunity writing a book with a goal to inspire, educate and empower people to take bold action to reach their dreams.  The book, entitled Stack The Logs!, is based on the wisdom and advice from his father who also passed away of a cancer similar to leukemia. Frank addresses blessing in adversity in his book stating, “There is always something to be gained from adversity, setbacks and difficulties. We are just not always trained to see what they are. Once you realize how this works, it is easier to have faith that your current hardships and adversities will work out for the good in the end.”

Frank’s team has set a clear goal of raising $1 million in 30 days for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with their current “Blessings in Adversity” Campaign ending Aug 31st  2004. Lunn and his team plan to accomplish this incredible feat through their website www.blessingsinadversity.com.  “We are honored and humbled by this task.  As we get new visitors and friends to come to our site www.blessingsinadversity.com, we know we will get the momentum we need,” says Lunn.
